My Grandfather, Ernest Stephen Hall, was born in Hull in 1880. I have a full family history with all details up to about 1918. He was badly shell shocked during WW1, and after returning from the war he abandoned his wife and children in Hull to try and follow a singing /opera career on the stage (probably not successful). He was not seen in Hull again and I have been trying to track him down.
I know he was in Kent in 1919 where he was lived briefly with an actress, and they had a child together. They parted company about 1920. I then discovered that he turned up in Stafford in 1932, as a member of repertory company (according to his obituary in The Staffordshire Advertiser)and then worked as a Stafford cinema manager until his death in 1937.
So, I have a missing 12 year period in his life - I would love to know what happened to him between 1920 and 1932 - he could have been anywhere in the UK, possibly seeking work on the stage in minor operas or music hall. Has anyone any ideas how I might try and find out where he was and what he was doing during this period? Electoral rolls may be an option, but I wouldn't know where to look, and I don't think that he was ever successful on the stage.
Thanks.
