Emeline Wilson - US Records after 1873
« on: Monday 13 May 13 15:32 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for any information about Emeline Wilson (Born Oldham, Lancashire abt 1857) she emigrated to the USA arriving in New York from Liverpool aboard the "Batavia" 25th August 1873.
She was travelling with William Taylor age 55 (probably her uncle or cousin) his wife Sally Taylor age 55 and their daughter Elizabeth age 19.
I have been unable to find any records for Emeline or Taylor family members after their arrival in New York in 1873.
Can anyone help?

I think the surname might be Crossley.

1900 census - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M9J6-SD6  Gives "Emilie"'s date of immigration as 1871, so somewhat close to the person we're looking for.

Other records of birth for their children:

The 1915 New York State census has Edward, "Emmerline", Hobart, and Francis Crossley living in the Bronx.  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/K9FC-HLX

In his WWI draft registration card, Hobart is back in New Jersey, and Edward is listed as his nearest relative.  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KZJG-2BV

The 1920 Census has Edward listed as a widower and living Hobart & Hobart's wife in Belleville, Essex Co., New Jersey.

Is this 'your' Hobart Crossley ...

Added:
This looks to be his daughter Lilian ...

Added:
Jennie Crossley's death announcement:

Finally:
If you Google "Hobart Crossley" you will find several newspaper reports of the Crossley family.

The 1900 census gives Emeline's month of birth as April, so if you can narrow down when your Emeline was born, it may help to see if this one is a possible match.

This appears to be the family in the 1885 New Jersey state census - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/6R8H-BN2

I think this might be Edward in 1880 - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MNZY-ZX4 - but no Emeline with him.

A big thankyou to everone who has posted information it is really appreciated.
I have so much to go on now that it will take me a while to check it all and try to put it all in order.

Please don't stop posting though if you come across any more information.

I have just been informed of the baptism record for Emelines son, Francis. He was born in New Jersey in 1898 but was not baptised until 1912 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.

Thanks again,
                      Terry
