Maggie Mellon b c 1893 Northumberland, UK - Flushing, Queens, New York

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how I can find out where she was living bet. 1948 & 1951. My aunt wrote to her in 1948 in Flushing & received a reply but she doesn't have the letter with the actual address. She may have been a nurse? Sorry it's a bit vague but my aunt was only about 13/14 yrs old at the time when her mother (my gran) died and Maggie was my grans sister.

Was Mellon her married name as there is no birth in Northumberland under that name.

There is a Margaret Mellon birth in Stockton in 1890 and another in South Shields Durham in 1895

There is a Maggie Mellon birth in Sheffield in 1890

Hi Carol,

I have a sneaky suspicion she may be the Hannah recorded around that date in N/C & Maggie may be a middle name. I only know that she did go by Maggie.
My family seem to go by the most peculiar names. I had another Maggie who I discovered to actually be Kate!

My great g/father was married twice and my gran told my aunt she had a sister Maggie & she was definitely in Flushing as Maggie so I was hoping she may be on a census around then?

Thanks for post. I have left a message on answerphone for my aunt re the address (if it has rung a bell) well let you know but hoping so.

Meanwhile, I will check the census you gave me.

It was only yesterday my aunt was enquiring about her, wondering if I'd ever managed to track her down.

I have found a death 20 February 1991 on famsearch for Margaret M Mallin (NY)
Birth Date: 3 November 1895 (would maybe fit/tie her in)?

Nothing close so far re 1940 census.

Vermont Death Index shows Margaret Mallin 3 Nov 1895 NY and Died 20 Feb 1991 Bennington  Vermont. Aged 95 years. Widowed.

Fathers Name was James Aylmer - Mothers maiden name :- Margaret Conway.
