Coroner and newspaper reports for William TAYLOR 1871 - Ampthill
« on: Monday 20 May 13 18:40 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I've just received a copy of my 4x Great Grandfather's death certificate where it gives the cause of death as being 'Accidental Death. Run over by an Express Train on the Midland Railway'. His death was reported by the Coroner. Poor guy :-(

I wonder if any of you could point me in the right direction for Coroner reports or newspaper articles relating to his accident? I've never had anything like this in my tree before.

The details are:

William TAYLOR - Died 17th March 1871 - Westoning, Bedfordshire (registration district is Ampthill).

The inquest was held on 20th March 1871 and the death registered on 22nd.

Thanks all!

:-)

Hi,

If you are lucky the Inquest file will be at the county archives; survival of these files is very random.  The archives should be able to advise you which local newspapers would have carried reports of Inquests.

I've searched for 3 Inquest reports and only found 1.
