ww1 records need a bit of help

i am looking for my great grandfather and his military record from 1917 when he was in the us navy as a radioman on a subchaser name is Charles D Taggart, i also have his service number

What year and where was great-grandfather born ?

he would have been in service 1917-1919 i would think, he was born in brookline 1896

This could be him - Charles Dalzell Taggart - 21 Jun 1896 - Boston, Massachusetts
WW2 Draft resides :- 9 Mulford street Brookline. Norfolk. Massachusetts.
Nearest relative Grace R Taggart - same address. Employer Town of Brookline Fire Department.
Station I 140 Washington Street brookline Norfolk MA.

yeah thats him but that is all i could find, and it is his ww1 record that i need and national archives in st louis had a fire in 1975 so the information could be lost

I would recommend contacting the National Archives to see if they have the information.  I tried to do that for someone who was in WWII, and they said the information was lost due to the fire, but they could try to piece together other information.  I never pursued it further, but there may be some information out there.
