Emma SCOTT on Hamilla Mitchel 1859
« on: Saturday 25 May 13 05:31 BST (UK) »
I believe Emma Scott (gt grandma) arrived in W Australia on the Hamilla Mitchel in 1859. She was born in Cumberland in 1839. Would love to know more - such as, did she travel alone? Would she have been assisted? She later went to Victoria.
Thanks for any help

The recent arrivals per Hamilla Mitchell are obtaining employment rapidly. Of the single females but 20 out of 114 are now disengaged, and most of the married people have been hired. Of the latter six men formerly engaged in mining operations in Wales have been engaged by the Western. Australian Mining Association, and, with their families, altogether twenty-five souls, will proceed to the North by an early opportunity. The conduct of the immigrants since they landed has been very good, and they have fully sustained the character given them by the Surgeon and Captain of the ship. The selection is very creditable to the Emigration Commissioners.

Cheers  :)
