I have attempted some of the missing bits.

Name.etc- Robert Roden General Dealer Married --- Elizabeth Deans

Where and when died - at the end - Last residence 21 Pleasance

Cause of death - Arterial disease  pulmonary apoplexy 7 days - (then the name of the doctor who certified the death?)

Agree with some but -

Can't work out what is between married and Elizabeth Deans

I think some of it is

usual residence

Mitral (as OP said) Disease, Pulmonary Apoplexy

as cert. by (Dr's signature) M B  ??

Think the registrar's name is Balfour

Thank you all. I'm going a little nuts on this one. I have two Robert Rodens and I'm trying to figure out which one I'm related to. This one is NOT the shoemaker (my Robert), although the wife and the dates and address are almost right. Aarrgghh.

Hi

"This one" has a mother with a Maiden Surname (looks like) of McIntyre
Does yours?

I don't have his parents yet, that's the problem. Back to a bit more figuring. The secret may lie in the bit under his name that is giving us problems, as I think he may have married twice. Thanks, everyone.

Hi

I think they are the same person!

The marriage certificate for Robert Roden (47, widower)  and Elizabeth Deans (38, widow)  in Edinburgh in Feb 1860 -  has Robert down as a Shoemaker Journeyman and parents as John Roden, labourer and Jane MS McIntyre (both deceased), so I think this is the same person.

There is another name after Married and before Elizabeth Deans which is most likely his first wife's name - hard to detect. In 1871, they are living at 7 Hill Place, St Cuthbert, Edinburgh. Robert is down as a Shoemaker,b. Ireland

Gadget, very interesting indeed. Did you get that marriage certificate from Scotland's People? I'll have to have a look at that. I know his first wife died quite young.

Have PMed you  :)

I'd put lotsa £s on it being the same person. Do you have anything on John Roden, his son? That might confirm John's parentage.
