William GUNN, Army No. 9 (NINE) was born in Inverness. At enlistment in Brisbane on 22 August 1914, he gave his age as 30 Years 9 Months. His NOK is recorded as Mrs David GUNN, 42 Rose Street, Inverness, Scotland. He stated he had previously completed 8 years service in RAMC (Royal Army Medical Corps) followed by 4 years service RAMC Reserve.
On 7 September 1914, he was assigned to "A" Section, 3rd Field Ambulance and immediately promoted to the rank of Sergeant (MOST probably due to his previous Service and experience in the British Army).
Of SPECIAL interest is a M-I-D (Mention In Dispatches) reference to which I shall transcribe exactly from his Army record:

An extract of this M-I-D was promulgated in the "London Gazette", 5 November 1915, Supplement Nr. 29354 should you wish to read or copy it.
He was awarded "1914/15 Star", "British War Medal" and the "Victory Medal". His Memorial Scroll and Plaque were issued in England (sic), probably to his noted NOK, Mrs David GUNN; MOST probably his mother.
