Brotherton Orphanage 1881?

Has anyone found records for an orphanage found on the 1881 census in Brotherton? If so, what kind of information was actually available? It's possible that my great grandmother was there in 1881, but the orphanage is not on the 1871 or 1891 census. I'm hoping to find background history on my possible ggmother,parents names,dates she was admitted/left etc

If there are any records of the orphanage and National school on 18 Low Street, Brotherton +/- years 1881 they should be at the West Yorkshire Archives service Wakefield

Hope you succeed in your Quest!

One point -If you do visit Wakefield or Leeds WYAS book in advance and book your records you want/wish to view, as they will be ready for you on arrival, at it takes time to acclimatize your bearings in the building and its do's & don'ts etc.

Still searching. Leeds and Wakefield do not have any records. Been advised to contact North Yorkshire, now waiting for a response. Also been told it's unlikely that any records have survived. Not giving up yet.

Try The National Archives websites

I think maybe (Selby records)North Yorkshire Archives as Brotherton is near the West Yorkshire/North Yorkshire border,  also I would try York city Archives, also York Borthwick instutute  at York university, also Doncaster is just down the A1 trunk road, so try Doncaster or Barnsley Archives

Leeds West is in North Yorkshire, Selby & Ainsty.- West Kirklees (part of Huddersfield) is in the Derbyshire high peaks, South and West Yorkshire and Doncaster is part Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire
