Looking for any information on John Lawson born Aberdeen 1788 died 1868 and his wife Catherine Anderson. Have no details on her.  I have the names of one of their children and am looking for names of their parents.

Hi jayandjay

What is the name of the child you know about? Is it one of the following?

https://www.familysearch.org/
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/igi
All baptised (in years shown) at TULLYNESSLE AND FORBES AND KEARN,ABERDEEN, issue of John LAWSON and Katherine ANDERSON:
Anne 1816
William 1818
John 1821
Beatrice 1823
Eliza 1826
James 1831
Alexis 1834

Which appears to be this family:
1861:  3 Farquhar Pl., St Nicholas Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire
Head: John LAWSON 73, retired miller, b Alford Aberdeen
Wife: Catherine 72, b Kerriemuir, Forfarshire
Son: John 39, Photographer, b Tallynessle, Aberdeenshire
Son: James 30,  Clothier, b Tallynessle, Aberdeenshire
Dau: Alexis 27, Whiteterer's?  ????woman, b Tallynessle, Aberdeenshire
Visitor: Elizabeth MAIDEN 18, Domestic Servant, b Rhynie, Aberdeenshire

If your John died 1868 in Scotland, and if the informant knew the details, his parents names should be on his death cert. And if the above census John is your John, then Catherine lived past 1855 and therefore same thing for her - parents names should be on the death cert.

You can search for and purchase Scottish records here:
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/welcome.aspx

Once we know if this couple on the 1861 is your couple or not (by identifying the child of your couple that you know of) , we can hopefully dig you out a little more info.

Cheers

Hi Jaquie

Looks like research by a descendant of one of Alexis' brothers - either James or John perhaps:

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=dvldog&id=I1419
Says:
John LAWSON died 12 May 1868
Father : William LAWSON
Mother: Margaret DUNN
Wife: Catherine ANDERSON died 8 Jun 1877

And the daughter Beatrice erected a headstone for her parents in Alford Kirkyard.

Cheers

Hi Jacquie

I was  a little confused at your reply....but  on looking further:

The children whom I noted earlier , included among them Ann b 1816, who must be the one child of John LAWSON (d 1868) & Catherine ANDERSON (d 1877) that you said you knew about.

This Ann went on to marry Alexander ROBB and among their children was your Alexis :
Alexis ROBB (b 1859 Premnay)

http://www.laingdescendants.com/getperson.php?personID=I3695&tree=Laing

So not the wrong family at all, just a different generation. eg:  Your Alexis ROBB b 1859  had a sister named Beatrice ROBB b 1841, and both look as if they were named after maternal aunts, Alexis LAWSON b 1834 and Beatrice LAWSON b 1823.

It now looks as if you have names for John LAWSON's parents, the names of more (if not all) of his and Catherine's children, plus a time & place of birth for Catherine (Kirriemuir) plus her death date (the cert may reveal her parents names).

Cheers
