BIRD family in Luton
« on: Monday 17 June 13 10:06 BST (UK) »
Looking for the birth and marriage of John BIRD in Luton.  Born c.1770 and married c.1795 to Elizabeth.   I have a son James baptised  1797.   Also trying to find a marriage of this James c.1823 to another Elizabeth.   (they had a son Joseph c.1826)

Any help much appreciated.  Thanks  Wilma

Have you checked the IGI at www.familysearch.org , where virtually all Bedfordshire marriages and baptisms pre 1813 have been extracted? You'll find a marriage in Luton in 1796 to Elizabeth Hill, and a baptism of a John Bird in 1773 in Luton.

You've got a lot of circas though. Have you found a baptism of Joseph c1826? If not, how do you know his parents were James and Elizabeth, rather than, say, James and Rebecca?

Following that family through in censuses, in 1861 Elizabeth gives her birthplace as Wing, Bucks, so they may not have married in Beds. In 1851 and 1861 they had a daughter Caroline whose birth appears to have been registered in the Sept quarter 1841 in Luton. Buy the cert to get Elizabeth's maiden name. They may have been the James Burd and Elizabeth How who married in Caddington on 18 Feb 1819, although Elizabeth looks a bit young to have married in 1819. Caroline's birth cert will either confirm it or rule out the Caddington marriage.
