Sibley Gundaroo Family Photo 1883
« on: Wednesday 19 June 13 13:07 BST (UK) »
Hi,
The attached photo is of my wife's gr.gr.grandfather, originally taken in 1883. I found the photo in a book about Gundaroo where he came to live in Australia. I tried to photo it in the book without success, so took the book to see if I could scan a copy which is what you now see. It is not too bad, but would like to see if I can get it clearer as I want to use it as part of the cover on her Family Book which is nearing completion before printing.
Before resizing, the photo was 600dpi resolution and 2.87MB in size. New size is now 332KB. Hope you can help.

Regards,

Wildcats13

Have you contacted the publisher of the book to see if they have the original of the photo, or perhaps other photos in the series  :)

Just for the purposes of your book this is a bit later than 1883.The girl's dress style with the kick-up shoulder seam first arrived in 1889 & lasted about 4 years.I would say this is an early type 1889-90.

Hello, Julie from Adelaide, Australia.

I've accidentally stumbled upon your posts on the above.
I am a Brown descendant and have recently self-published, with a distant cousin, a book on the Brown family.
Perhaps we can swap information?
May I ask how/why you are interested?
Are you a Brown descendant?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Julie :)

Hi Julie,
Our connection to the photo is via my wife's Sibley family from Gundaroo near Canberra, ACT. the two males in the photo were her Grandfather William Sibley and Great Grandfather George Sibley. The Brown connection is via her auntie Emma May Sibley who married Victor Kingsley Brown. Victor's parent's were Arthur Percival Brown & Flora Mary Tickle from the Mintaro area in South Australia.
When the Sibley Family History Book was launched in 2013, we arranged for a Family Reunion at Gundaroo and was a great success with over 140 attending. I don't believe I have a need for more details on the Brown side of the family, however if you are interested in having a copy of the Sibley book, although all printed copies have been sold, I could make a CD of the book available and dispatch it for $30.
I look forward to hearing from you again.
Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the quick reply.  I would love a CD copy, as I don't have anything on the Sibley family and collect family history books any way.  I won't be able to afford it until my pension next Friday 10th.

If you were at all interested, we could do a complete swap, I could sent you the Brown book I've done and you could send me the Sibley CD.  It's up to you.

I'm not sure how we swap emails or addresses, as doesn't everything appear for the world to see on this forum?  I haven't been on forums for about 16 years, so don't know how it all works any more.

Again, great to hear from you.

Kindest regards,

Julie Hayes. ;)
