just tried again, the site retains your previous search entries when you go back to it, not sure now how to get round it, but the civilian data is definately there.

Works fine for me. There are 6 Bellamys there, but only one in London - BELLAMY, OLIVE HELEN LOUISE.

is this the one?

Nothing comes up for Bellamy  on Freebmd under Poplar.
Mar 1945 Bellamy Olive H L London City, 1c/21. No others.

http://www.cwgc.org/   If you click the drop down list under the "service" tab "Civilian War dead" is the bottom option, you need to click that, then the last tab click second world war. There are 6 Bellamys listed.

The dates for the London Blitz are 25 August 1940 to 16 May 1941.

You can use freebmd to search for Bellamy deaths Sept1/4 1940 to June 1/4 1941, don't select a specific registration district and look down the list of results to see if there are any names you recognise. Entries for deaths in the East End of London should have a volume reference number of 1c.

Are you looking for anyone specifically?

Hi

Is this a general trawl for Bellamy
( +/- Page in the Uxendon/Preston/Wembley/Kenton/Kingsbury area )
or do you have specific links you wish to follow?

Two weeks ago I found a living Bellamy relation, by leaving a message on www.facebook.com/oldfalkirkinpictures I got a message from there son, so I was able to speak to her on the phone. She said there were two Bellamys who died in the Blitz. I can remember my father telling me who they were 40 years ago but can't remember there names now. So I thought if I saw there names written down it might ring a bell.  I dont know what Bellamy trawling is .  Thank you for all your help all of you. I will keep trying. :D

Hi

This may help (?)

I have attached a report of all FreeBMD Bellamy Deaths for years 1939-1945
(Deliberately widened to all districts "all" WW2 years)
Sorted into Registration Districts so you can browse Districts in/around "Poplar"

Regarding the CWGC's search engine — it's somewhat cantankerous, and one of its quirks is that it gives no results if you select Civilian War Dead and also United Kingdom. As Sue says, fill in just the name and tick CWD, then click on the orange Search box at the bottom of the page.

I've also had trouble when specifying initials, and found that Home Guard personnel are sometimes classed as civilians and sometimes as military.

There's a more powerful search front end for the CWGC site at hut-six.co.uk/cgi-bin/search39-47.php [www in front], but it finds the same 6 Bellamy civilians.
