Name the place !
« on: Thursday 27 June 13 17:20 BST (UK) »
I've come across an 1851 census entry who may be someone I'm interested in. However, I am puzzled by the place of birth, which looks German.
If it's who I think it is, I would expect her to be born in Cheshire.

I suspect Mr Census Man may have misheard or not understood what was said, so has anyone any ideas if it sounds like anywhere in Cheshire. It's the middle one.

Thanks Eric

Looks German, BUT googling brings up Schaumburg in Illinois USA.

What does 1841 say for her, and 1861 onwards if she is still alive?

That's the tricky bit.

I can't find anything else. I suspect she may have died by 1861. I think she married, if indeed she did, about 1849/1850, but I can't find a match.

If you give the name and the census ref number that the snippet comes from,  then we will be happy to look around

You're more than welcome

I've tried that many possibilities, I've forgotten where I started.

1851, p 2228  f 471  pg 54.

Transcribed as Wm Daniele b 1850 Manchester, however, I believe it should be Daniels.

I did wonder if the place of birth ended 'bury' and the accent made it hard to understand.

Hi
Do you think that it could be Shrewsbury?

James (bn Middlewich Cheshire, says he is married) and young William ( indexed age 14, but image age 11, bn Manchester) are together in 1861 on what appears to be a boat!

Liz- that's the one I'm trying to work back on.

Heather-just noticed that one. Didn't register before with thinking Cheshire. James D married Elizabeth Cooper at St. Mary, Shrewsbury.

Told you I was losing it!

Elizabeth , with a younger child Sarah, looks like she is at

RG9 2613 141 22

Sure it is her - married, described as Canal somethingmaster's wife. Fits in with where we found James as a master on a canal boat

And her pob is Shrewsbury!
