O'Brien/Brien Clone Ballycarney
« on: Thursday 27 June 13 18:22 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Working with very little info I am trying to trace my Dad's family tree. I was told my Grandfather Peter O'Brien was born in Ferns co Wexford I have found a Peter Brien in Clone 1901 and in 1911 which I believe is close to Ferns. I was hoping someone might be able to tell me what the Parish Church of Clone would be as I was hoping contacting the Parish Priest might be of some help???
Thanks Eileen

Hi
Thanks for the speedy reply!
I have my Grandad Peter's marriage cert as he married in 1919 in Newcastle Upon Tyne England, it is the first official document I have for him. He was aged 30 and his Father was recorded as John O'Brien deceased (General Labourer). That and being told he was born in Ferns is all I have really I don't even know my gt Grandad John's wifes name. That is why I was hoping there might be some Church records that might help!

You may have this already - the Brien family in Clone in 1901 census
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Wexford/Ballycarney/Clone/1788865/
But I can't find them in the 1911 Census
Possible birth from civil reg. index
Peter Brien Gorey registration district 1889 quarter Apr Jun vol 2 page 763  A possibility May be worthwhile getting it - would confirm mother's maiden name.

Thanks!!
I have seen that and in the 1911 census there is a Peter Brien living at the next door address so Im guessing that's the same person.
Can I ask though which site did you search the birth registration on and how would I go about ordering it? The date would fit in with my Grandad

www.familysearch.org (the LDS site)  has the Index of the Irish Civil registrations and these are searchable for free. You can download an application form  to get the cert at www.groireland.ie- then you either have to post or send by fax. Ask for a research cert i. e. a photocopy of the entry in the register as it cost less (about 4 euros) and gives the same information as the full cert.
Another long shot is a marriage in the index of a John Brien Gorey registration district Jan Mar 1889 (I know its the same year as Peter's birth) volume 2 page 727 and there is a possible  match for a Bridget Kavanagh. Suggest you get the birth cert first to confirm mother's name - and if it is Bridget Kavanagh then getting the marriage cert will give both bride and groom's fathers' names and some further clues re residence at time of marriage etc..
