Jesse aka Joseph Bird born C1831 Clutton Somerset
« on: Tuesday 02 July 13 16:36 BST (UK) »
My GreatGrandfather Jesse Bird born Clutton in Somerset C1831 was the son of Samuel and Priscilla Bird.
On the 1841 census he was aged 10 and living in Clutton,  then on Christmas Day 1863 he Joseph Bird a coal miner married Sarah James from Northamptonshire in the Parish Church in Oldbury in the West Midlands. This was his second marriage for he stated that he was a widower. He as Jesse Bird next appears on the 1871 Welsh Census aged 41 in Aberdare, South Wales.
Does anyone know where he was between 1841 and 1863 and or when and who he married and what became of his first wife?
Robin

Hi,
My Great Grandfather was born Jesse Bird (son of Samuel & Priscilla Bird) in Clutton, Somerset C1831. On the 1841 English census he is recorded as being 10 and living in Clutton.
On Christmas Day 1863 Joseph Bird (aka Jesse Bird) a coal miner married Sarah James from Northamptonshire in the parish church in Oldbury in Staffordshire (now West Midlands). It states on the marriage certificate that he was a widower.
The next information I have on him is the 1871 Welsh Census when he Jesse/Joseph and Sarah were living in Incline Row in Aberdare in South Wales.
Does anyone know where he was between 1841 & 1863 and 1871 and or who was and what happened to his first wife.
Any leads on this will be very usefull.
Robin :)

The daughter Mary A c1856, Staffs in the 1871 Aberdare census ought to be the 'link' to find clues in the 1861 census - but nowt so far ....

In 1871 he has a 15 year old daughter Mary Ann born Stafford so I imagine she was born to his first wife.  That gives us a clue where to look.

"Aston" on the 1861 census was born before the 1855 marriage, and there's a birth in Clutton for Austin MAGGS, Jun Q 1853.  (Clutton 5c 671)
