Brittons, Brittains, etc. from Bedfordshire
« on: Tuesday 02 July 13 18:55 BST (UK) »
Is anyone here researching Brittons (all variants) in Bedfordshire?

Lindsey Britton

Looking for the ancestors of John Britton bc 1672/3, probably in England, but living in Henrico Co., VA by 1684--The family has a rare Y-DNA signature and belongs to subgroup AS7E of Haplogroup I1--We are Family Group 1 in the Britton Project

My 6xg grandfather was Ellis Brittain baptised at Westoning in 1691. He moved to Clophill. His parents were Thomas and Elizabeth whose marriage and baptisms I haven't traced. I descend from his daughter Sarah, so am not a Brittain.

I also have a more remote Brittain, Mary, who married in Langford, near Biggleswade, in 17(8)78, but I haven't been able to find anything more about her, although I haven't looked very hard!

I have already been in contact with Lindsey on the other thread about the Brittains so I didn't post on here.
However I am doing so now because I have the Brittains of Biggleswade in my tree  :)  I have a Mary daughter of Robert and Elizabeth in Langford but I haven't done much about her yet;  she seems to have married James Cooper in 1778.  I haven't found a Mary who married in 1788 - yet.
As I have already mentioned to Lindsey, I am also descended from a female Brittain but can trace back to Robert and Elizabeth b. around 1730.  My line moved from Langford to Biggleswade and then to Colmworth.

P.S. didn't the 1788 marriage occur in Maulden?

Sorry Bev, that should have read 1778 not 1788. Confusing my 7s and 8s! And it was to James Cooper, who was my 3rd cousin 8 times removed. They had a daughter, Sarah Cooper Brittain, in 1775, but were a bit slow in marrying. It's a wet morning here in the south of France so I'll have a look at the Brittains this morning. I have the Langford and Biggleswade transcripts if you need anything

David and Bev,

I hope someone from your line with a Britton/Brittain relative will see this discussion and get in touch with all of us.  The Britton Project is looking for Brittons from eastern counties.
