Kennedy in Antrim:
« on: Tuesday 16 July 13 07:42 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Trying to find a place in Antrim for the marriage of Samuel Kennedy & Margaret Galt, 7th of June 1854. The marriage places recorded on the births of three children in Glasgow are 1st Groagh, Antrim, Ireland on the birth records of twins Margaret & Jane, 1871 and 2nd Bushmills, Antrim, Ireland on record of William, 1874. Nothing on modern maps matches these locations. As to religion I have no knowledge but children married Church of Scotland. Any help appreciated.
                                                                                               Regards,
                                                                                                     Duncan.

Hi,
Samuel Kennedy married Margaret GAULT in Toberkeigh Presbyterian Chutch, Ballycastle District, Co. Antrim in 1854
The location of births may be CROAGH which is in the Ballycastle area. There are two townlands (small administration areas) called Croaghmore and Croaghbeg (meaning Little Croagh and Large Croagh). Bushmills is in the west of Co. Antrim about 7 miles east of Portrush.

Hi Kingskerswell,
Thank you for such a swift answer to my question. I had tried searching for both Galt & Gault in church marriage records on my Rootsireland site but drew blanks for the marriage there. I will now check out the online maps to view the areas you quoted.
                                                                                     Thanks again,
                                                                                              Duncan MacDonald.

Hi Kingskerswell,
Found the marriage record this time, Samuel Kennedy, 20 years, Broughgammon, Antrim and Margaret Gault, over 21 years, Graignamaddy, married 6th of June, 1854 at Toberkeigh Presbyterian Church, Moyle, Antrim, by Rev. J. Simpson. It was Samuel & Margaret's place and date of marriage, noted on the children's B.C.'s as Croagh & Bushmills. Thank you once again this has been of great help to my research. Now to find out more about the father noted as Fergus on marriage record and spouse and siblings.
                                                            Cheers,
                                                                    Duncan.

Hi,
Now found Samuel Kennedy's death in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland: 18 Bruce Street, 26th January 1915. On D.C. gives parents as Ferguson (Fergus on marriage) Kennedy, Fisherman & Jean Jones. I have tried to find the parents and any siblings of Samuel on Rootsireland.ie but have drawn a blank for both a marriage of Ferguson & Jean or any births for other children, siblings of Samuel. Any further help to get me one more step back in Irish family would be appreciated.
                                                                                                         Regards,
                                                                                                              Duncan.

Duncan,
Irish records are sparse before 1850. I have found that Ferguson Kennedy was born in 1871 to Thomas Kennedy and Sarah Morgan. The birth was registered in Croagh. Thomas and Sarah were married in 1854 in Ballintoy Church of Ireland, Ballycastle District and Thomas' father was Fergus Kennedy.

Hi Kingskerswell,
Samuel Kennedy was born abt 1834 to Fergus(on) & Jean Jones, married Margaret Gault 1854. Children found to couple are:
William born abt 1855 Ireland, died of tar burns, 1873 Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland.
Ferguson born 1858 Ballintoy, Antrim, married Christina Anderson, 1877 Greenock.
John 1861 Ireland, married Rosetta Simpson, 1883 Greenock.
James 1866 Greenock, married Mary Barclay 1884 Greenock, married Catherine Coutts 1904 Kinning Park, Lanarkshire.
Samuel abt 1868 Greenock, married Margaret S Hair 1896 Greenock.
Jane & Margaret (Twins) 1871 Greenock.
William 1874 Greenock.

Thomas & Sarah Morgan's marriage, Ballintoy, Moyle, Antrim, 24th May 1854 both partners lived in Broughgammon, the same address as Samuel. Married by Rev. H. Carter, Church of Ireland. Seems most likely that they were brothers and sons of Fergus.
Found linked daughter on Ancestry, born in Croagh, 1872 Sarah,  who married a Robert Duncan in Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, 1890. Sister to Ferguson, 1871.
                                                                              Thank you.
                                                                                       Duncan.

P.S. Now found a few other siblings for Samuel, Fergus married an Eve Boyd in Greenock, 1863, two children found, Hugh born Greenock, abt 1868, married Charlotte Byron, 1890 in Greenock. Fergus born and died 1875, 10 months old in Greenock.
A sister  to Samuel, Ann, no details.
                                                       D.
