1968 telephone directory or residents list?
« on: Wednesday 17 July 13 10:44 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know where I could search for the name of an occupant of a house in Winnipeg Manitoba in 1968 please?

I am looking for someone who wrote a letter in september 1968.  Unfortunately I only have their first name and full address.  Google maps shows that the house still stands (maybe rebuilt), certainly the address still exists.

Would anyone know if there is a telephone directory or directories available around that time?  I believe the person emigrated from Scotland/England and became a member of the RCMP.  I'm not sure of the laws on immigration and voting so I do not know if they would show up on an electoral roll?

I'm sure due to the age of this person at the time of the letter that he will have died.  If I can find a surname I think I'm in with a chance of finding details or a final resting place.  He has a very distinct spelling on his forename.

It's a long shot but we all love a long shot dont we? :)     Can anyone help please?

I would try the Winnipeg Public Library as they may have the directories. If not, they may know where to look.

There are some Winnipeg directories available at this site, but they don't seem to go past 1961:

What was his name and address? There are voting lists that go up to 1980 at Ancestry.

United States: Patterson, Smith, Brown, Vance, Bower(s), Newberry, Best, Love, Gorsuch

Thanks to everyone who has replied so far..  Gives me a start..

The address i'm looking for is 66 Furby Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba.   I dont have a surname but the forename is hand written clearly and is an unusual spelling "Seaumus" which is usually Seamus.

We believe he went to Canada in the late 1950's early 1960's.  They letter I have is from September 1968 with the above address on it.

I am on ancestry myself but do not have an international subscription..

It is a long shot, but this is the link to RCMP, at the bottom is a link to contact regarding their database from 1920 onwards, you might get lucky

Thank bowman..  I was going to give the RCMP a try and search some of the cemeteries in Canada if I can figure out a possible surname.
