Search by address in census?
« on: Wednesday 17 July 13 20:47 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find someone in the 1910 census and all I have is an address. I have it from a passenger list and I have no idea what the name is because the writing is very bad. Is there anyway to search the 1910 US Census using just an address?

It shows a Mrs J.C............................
217 Appleton St. North Andover, Mass

Various North Andover/Andover city directories from around that time have John G. and Nora Thompson living at that address.  John was a station agent for the B. & M. railroad.  It looks like Nora was the widow of Aaron D. Thompson, and John was married to a Margaret.  There is also a William J. Thompson at that address in 1905.

I don't have access to their street addresses, but some of the names in North Andover, on the 1910 census were: Jessie J Card, John J Carroll, John J Cassidy, J Gilbert Chadwick, John J Collins, John J Costello.

I suspect the name on the passenger list was Mrs. J.G. Thompson.  It looks like his wife was Margaret (nee Lynch) from Ireland.

1910 census - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M2JF-241

1920 census - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MXY5-CYM

Both census records have them at 217 Appleton.

Birth and death of their daughter Margaret also put them at that address:
