According to our family history, my Great Grandfather - William ROBERTS - was born in Liverpool on 2 January 1866. He married in Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia in 1897 & his parents were listed as William ROBERTS (builder) & Anne EVANS on his marriage certificate.

I would love to find my Great Grandfather's birth in England AND ALSO find out more information about his parents William & Anne. I had been told that William may have had a sister Alicia BUT I haven't been able to find anything to confirm such information . . .

I think you might be a year out on his birth.

The marriage of his parents show that William was a mariner of Temple Terrace, Rathbone Street.

Born on 29th January 1865, William Roberts, son of William and Ann baptised at Liverpool St Peter on 28th May.
Father a mariner of Rathbone Street.

There are three trees on Ancestry which have the same marriage in 1863. One has William as a son who emigrated to Australia but the other two have different children.

The alternative family is on the 1871-81 censuses and the trees show an Alice as a sister to William senior.

It is difficult to know which of the trees is correct.
