I am a descendent of the potter John Turner II however I'm researching to find the descendants of his brother, potter
William Turner 1762-1835. Any information which corrects or adds to my (possibly incorrect) information is of great interest to me. I believe that Census info of the area (esp Hanley) will be a gold mine.
Potter William Turner married Elizabeth Wright (her parents were John & Mary) 9 Oct 1799 St Mary, Stafford. They had 6 children.
1) Mary Ann Turner (I have excellent information on her) d. 1878 & Buried Hanley (no children)
2) John Turner b.Aug 1803 Longton (no further info whatsoever)
3) Sarah Turner b. 1806 Longton married William Palmer 1831 Stoke d. 1881 (see below)
4) William Turner b. 1807 Longton (I have more info)
5) Elizabeth Turner b. 1815 (Apparently died young)
6) Harriet Turnerb. 1818 d. 1848 HanleyI'd like to centralise the search into Sarahs family as I already have leads that census finds could add to. Naturally If you come across the others please post them too
Sarah Turner married the Timber Merchant William Palmer in Stoke 14 Jul 1831. Children were all born in Longton:-
1) John Palmer 1832-1840 (died young)
2) William Turner Palmer 1833-1872 ( possibly married Matha Webb 17 Feb 1856 Sedgley) (Lot A221 Hanley Cemetery)
3) Henry Palmer 1835- (Only have Christening info)
4) Frederick Palmer 1836-1939 (More information below)
5) Martin Charles Palmer 1838-1873 (Lot A221 Hanley Cemetery) Archetict & surveyor together with his brother William. From here my information gets a little scratchy .... Frederick Palmer married Ellen Mare Johnson 13 Apr 1864 Hartshill. I have found 4 possible children:-
1) William Henry Palmer Christened 30 Apr 1865 Newcastle Under Lyme (possibly not theirs)
2) Emily Palmer 1869- Wellington
3) Mary Anne Palmer 1869- Wellington
4) Adah Sarah Palmer 1871- WellingtonFrom the book "Turners of Lane End" I know that "Mrs Eric Young of Stonyfields, Newcastle-under-Lyme" who died somewhere about 1960 was the great granddaughter of William Turner. From
http://www.thepotteries.org/people/young_ernest.htm I find that she was Elsie Maud Palmer daughter of Col. H Palmer and she married 1912 ...... The puzzle question here is just how does she fit in as her father was "Col. H Palmer" ..... I can only guess that I have missed the birth of a son to Frederick or that I don't have the children of the other 3 sons, William Turner Palmer, Henry Palmer or Martin Charles Palmer.
Any assistance here would be greatfully received, Rob
