Williams/Roberts - Llanberis - COMPLETED THANK YOU
« on: Wednesday 31 July 13 16:43 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am trying to trace my Welsh roots without much success!  I found an old post looking for this info from 8 years ago but there was nothing at the time and the users appear to be inactive now  - maybe better luck this time!

The two individuals I am concentrating on are my Great Grandparents, Richard Williams and Elizabeth Roberts.

They lived at 21 Goodman Street, Llanberis and were certainly there in 1921 when my Grandmother was born and still there in 1942 when my Grandmother was married!

Children as follows (oldest to youngest as far as I know):

Elizabeth
Thomas
Robin
Jack
Eleanor (my grandmother, born 1921)
Anne (Nancy) (born 1923)

According to the marriage certificate for my grandmother in 1942, Richard was a Railway Locomotive Fireman.

If anyone has any info on marriage dates, birth/death dates much appreciated.  Would be difficult to find on the 1911 census as I don't think they were there then and I'm unsure when they married or when the eldest children were born.

I've been told by my father that Richard died in an accident at work while decoupling two carriages but no idea when.

Any info or pointers gratefully received!

Thanks

Hi

Have you already investigated this marriage in 1905?

Marriages March qtr 1905
Richard Williams   Llanrwst  11b 463

On the same page there is an Elizabeth Roberts

Have you looked for them on the 1911 census to see if any children at that time match what you know

Hi,

yes it was some time ago and I don't have the details to hand but I'm sure that is the records I found and was certain it was a match, only to apply for a copy of the marriage certificate to be informed that while those two people were married it was not to each other!  :-[

Also tried the 1911 census at one time when there was free access on Find My Past but the WIlliams name was so common I just couldn't pick out any that I could say with any certainty were the family I was looking for - and I looked at DOZENS!

I may have to wait until I can get the 1921 census for a definite match!   :(

Thanks that's useful.

I'll give it another go but it's needle in a haystack stuff!  ;D

The baptism of the eldest child Elizabeth is available on FindMyPast if you purchase credits.Unfortunately Llanberis transcriptions seem to end in 1913 so later children are not evident. In this context a 1913 civil marriage in Caernarfon registration district between Richard Williams and Lizzie Roberts looks well worth considering. If you buy credits or have other access to the 1911 census, there are certainly interesting looking candidates, one with an adjacent address, though this may be coincidence.

Regards
Roger

Thanks Roger, the baptism looks interesting, as does the marriage.  I'll look into these.

I've looked at so many census records and I did notice there are a few candidates on Goodman Street, but there was so many Williams and Roberts families and no way I could see to provide a definite link.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi,
I Lived and was brought up in 20 Goodman street, Llanberis.

I remember Uncle Tow and Anti Nancy, They lived at number 21, I'm sure uncle Tow died about 1980 and Anti Nancy moved to Well Street, Llanberis  until the Early 1980's.

Did You'r grandmother move to Scotland? I remember a sister and brother coming on holiday in the 1970's from scotland to stay at number 21 in the summer.

I will ask my father if he has any more information on the family as his grandparents have lived at number 20 since about 1920
