Can you upload Scotlandspeople certs to Ancestry trees?
« on: Friday 02 August 13 11:25 BST (UK) »
I know you can function wise but I mean in legal terms? Would Scotlandspeople let me do it? I intend to put them on a public tree.

I do add all the certs to relevant people in my Ancestry Tree, but this tree is private and unsearchable.
Only a handful of  trusted people have access.

It was never publicly available, but I gave access to a few people who copied over some docs to their public tree.
It amazes me just how many others found these  and attached them to their own tree... more often than not... these  BDMs have no connection the people that they are now attached to.

Hi

Technically uploading documents to Ancestry (or any similar website) constitutes publishing and copyright laws apply and it doesn't matter whether the tree is private or not. Ancestrys Terms and Conditions to state that you should have third party consent where necessary.

Hi Andy,
Thanks
I will check out the third party consent
Any documentation on my private and unsearchable tree refer only to  long since, deceased people.
( no recently deceased or living people are allowed!)

I more or less use this tree as my personal filing system and the only people with access are close relatives.

No way of knowing just how "true blue" and "verified" lots of info on Trees actually is without the certs etc to prove it?  And no difference - same rule applies to public/private trees?... hmmmm  food for thought.
