Re Wills
« on: Friday 02 August 13 16:13 BST (UK) »
Having found an entry for an ancestors will in the register for 1953, I duly applied to leeds with all the information and fee required but they replied that they have no record of it? Ancestor lived in Scotland but will was sealed in London. Why would there be no copy available?
Any help gratefully received.

Hi, the info I have is-
Jessie McBeth Craig of The Firs, Caldwell, Renfrewshire died 09/01/1953. Sealed London 11th March.
Thanks for taking the time to read it.

Hi Sweet

I've looked at the calendar and can't see what is wrong, unless somehow you wrote the wrong name or date.

I should be at Probate in Holborn next week or soon after, I'll ask there for you, but in the meantime try and contact Leeds by phone for a fuller explanation.

My understanding is that if someone is domiciled and dies in Scotland but they have property in England then the Will (if there is one) and the Confirmation will require to be processed/sealed in England too.  Have you enquired about the Confirmation in Scotland?  I think for that era they will be archived at NAS.
