Thomas and Elizabeth are driving me mad!
« on: Tuesday 06 August 13 20:57 BST (UK) »
Some people have kindly offered some help on this thread:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=655554.0

but I'm no further forward and would appreciate any further help or suggestions. (NB not keen on having to purchase any certificates!)

Elizabeth Brown m John Flynn in Bermondsey in 1906 (cert avail online). Elizabeth's father was Thomas Brown, labourer. From the census I understand that she was born around 1886 in Rotherhithe.

In 1901 she appears to be with her father Thomas and his new wife, Elizabeth nee Millichope. I don't know who Elizabeth Brown's mother was. Thomas m Elizabeth Millichope in 1898 in Southwark (certificate online but sadly Thomas's father's name is illegible!) Thomas's birth details seem to suggest a yob between 1844-49, and pob either Bermondsey or Rotherhithe.

I need to find Thomas and Elizabeth in 1891 to confirm the parentage of either and I cannot, no matter how I phrase the search parameters!

Please can anyone help?  muchas gracias :)

Hello
I have been banging my head against a related brick wall for some time!  I think that Elizabeth Flynn (Brown) was a relative - either sister or cousin - of my husband's grandmother, Ellen Brown, who was apparently born in Rotherhithe in either 1877 or 1879.  I say 'apparently' because try as I might I cannot find out who Ellen's parents were.  One thing I have been told is that at some point her family had a different surname, possibly something like Braun.  I'll have a look at the marriage you have mentioned of Thomas Brown and Elizabeth Millichope and perhaps that will shed some light.
Best wishes, Alison

Hello, thank you for your response, I'll be very interested to hear of any breakthroughs you make - the possibility of an anglicisation of another name hadn't occurred to me.

Hi
Just a couple of things - I've looked back over some notes I made of my mother-in-law's recollections of her mother-in-law (Ellen Brown) and it seems that she thought Ellen Brown's father was called James.  I see that fits in with the information from your earlier post.  Anyway, I've ordered the marriage certificate for Thomas Brown and Elizabeth Millichope which should help us both - I'll post again once it has arrived.

best wishes Alison

Louisa, is that from a hard copy of the certificate or an online copy?
