Arthur Warner Baxter - 1911 COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 13 August 13 09:51 BST (UK) »
I have been trying to establish the whereabouts of Arthur Warner Baxter (b. 9 Dec 1878 in Rolleston, Staffs, England) and his first wife Mary Elizabeth Large (b. 1878 in West Derby) in the 1911 census.
Father was George Baxter, mother Louisa Frost. AWB was a carpenter / joiner, present in Knowsley, Lancs in 1891 and 1901, married Mary in 1903 in Knowsley, registered in Prescot, Lancs. AWB was wounded in France in WW1 but I have not been able to trace his war records. Mary died in Q2 1915 and AWB remarried in 1919 (Jane Jones) and spent the rest of his life in Knowsley. I have info on all children. I believe he was in the employment of the Knowsley estate (Lord Derby’s residence) in 1911, and as much of the village of Knowsley was owned by the estate at that time I thought I might have found him there, but just cannot find anything in the census records. I have tried different spellings of the name with no success.
Anyone know something about him?

We aren't allowed to do full 1911 look-ups for copyright reasons.

However, the free index to the 1911 census is showing an Arthur Warner Barter aged 32 living in Prescot Registration District. The free index on G R shows his birthplace as Rolleston, Staffordshire.

In the same household is Mary Elizabeth Barter aged 33.

AWB was a carpenter / joiner, present in Knowsley, Lancs in 1891 and 1901, married Mary in 1903 in Knowsley, registered in Prescot, Lancs.

Arthur Warner 'Barter' in 1911 was a joiner (confirmed by doing an occupation search on the index on FindMyPast.)

Brilliant, jen B, just goes to show how sensitive the search engine can be. Even with your first reply I could not find him, but found him via typing in mary Elizabeth. Much obliged. I had tried all sorts of possible spellings but it was the missing 'r' that fooled the system.
To Lizdb - no children via first marriage. Thanks also
Happy me!

'Twas easy - I don't use Ancestry as my first post of call! He turned up straight away on an index search on FindMyPast and the 1911 site.

I then found it difficult to pinpoint him on Ancestry. Searching simply 'Arthur' born 'Rolleston' living in Lancashire didn't find him. I too located him via the wife's name  ::)
