Tracing a grave

Hi, I am trying to find out where my grandfather might be buried. I have the address he was living at when he died but this was in Westminster in London and I'm not sure which cemetery that would come under.

Why don't you post the information (address) you have and then I am sure that someone with a better knowledge of London (than me!) will give you a pointer, which might then give you a better chance of a place to start looking.

His name was George Tait born 20/07/1914 in Edinburgh and died 08/02/1976 at 75 Great Peter Street, Westminster. The death certificate says Administrative area city of Westminster. Any help or information would be gratefully received.

Brompton Cemetery was run originally by the West London and Westminster Cemetery Co.

Whilst a prestigious cemetery you should be aware that on occasions people chose cemeteries outside of the locality. This could be that the family wanted graves in one location. When a minor member of royalty was buried at Kensal Green it was suddenly very fashionable to have a tomb there especially if it was near to a famous deceased personage. In other examples, Brookwood in Surrey had trains running from Waterloo which carried coffins and all the mourners. People of certain trades liked the idea that all fellow actors or bakers or printers etc could all be buried in one location so there are rows of the same trade or profession. At that time many Londoners were buried at Brookwood which was the largest cemetery in Europe.

However you should consider Brompton as a possible.

Hi ... any chance he may of been cremated where he was born?

Hi I am also trying to trace my grandfathers grave I only have death cert details I have searched cemeteries over most of sussex and surrey but cannot find him also checked deceasedonline no luck there his name was HERBERT RODERICK KELWAY BAMBER born 1893 died 1948 at swandean hospital sussex but lived at Bramshot lodge hostel hindhead surrey he was a commander in navy so im told desperate to find him HELP please

Diana666 - may I suggest that you start a new topic with your request. 
In the meantime, I see that he was a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy during WW1 and was awarded 1914-15 Star, Victory & British War Medals.
You may wish to check the newspapers for any obituaries for him. 
I presume he stayed on in the Navy after the War?  Maybe he elected to be buried at sea?

Ok, go the FORUM PAGE on RootsChat.  Scroll down the page to ENGLAND then click onto SUSSEX (which is where your grandfather died).  Then click on NEW TOPIC. 
As a suggestion, put your grandfather's name in the 'subject line', along with looking say 'looking for grave'.
Then in the main body, put in as much info, ie his birth and death dates, along with wife?'s name.
The more info you include, the easier it is for someone to help.
