Norbury Staffordshire - James Slack
« on: Monday 19 August 13 21:32 BST (UK) »
Please can anyone try and find out if James Slack,  born around 1822/24, originated from Norbury Staffordshire.   I believe his father was also called James.  The 1841 census states that he was born in Norbury Staffordshire, but all the other census'state 'birth place Wildboarclough Macclesfield.  As I have been searching now for around 2 years and no nearer getting to the answer, I am ready to give up.    I hope that someone can help me, please.    thank you

Hi

Your previous thread

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=615039.msg4699490#msg4699490

Only the 1861 census shows his birthplace as Staffs - all others show Wildboarclough

The 1841 does not show birthplaces - only Y or N to denote whether they were, or were not,  born in the county in which they were living in 1841

Hi

Do you have his marriage certificate, if so, what was his fathers occupation, I can see no birth record for him in the Norbury area, there a lot of James Slack's in the Cheshire area, I think you may have to follow them through, all the census and see which one is not accounted for

Hi

Looking at your previous post,  I see the you mention James being born in the Quarnford area, I have found this Baptist record but the father is Joseph

I am sure it would be Knotbury on the 1861 census.  It is very close to Wildboarclough, near to a place called Three Shires Head where the counties of Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire all meet

I agree Chrissie

James Slack
1841 b Not in county, living in Cheshire
1851 b Cheshire
1861 b Notbury Staffordshire
1871 b Cheshire
1881 b Cheshire
1891 b Cheshire

Abraham Slack bother to James ? has no relationship is given on the 1841 census, this is speculation
1841 with James, b Not in county, living in Cheshire
1851 b Staffordshire
I can't see Abraham after this

It looks like Knotbury  and Wildboarclough are in the same vicinity move the map to the right

Yes, the river Dane marked on the map is the border between Staffordshire and Cheshire
