Pavey family in Winterslow
« on: Wednesday 21 August 13 21:51 BST (UK) »
During the latter part of the 19th century, 5 of my Gt Grandmothers brothers and sisters left Weymouth and moved to Gunville Road in Winterslow. Jane Amelia Pavey married Walter John Annetts in 1885 and lived at No 7, (The Bakery). Janes young brother Joseph Charles Pavey was also living there and working as a baker. William Thomas Pavey married Eliza Snelling in 1897. Their family lived at Sunningdale, Gunville Road and I believe that the wife of Williams grandson still lives there, Absalom Pavey married Margaret Collins in 1897 and they set up home at Gorey on Gunville Road and finally Charlotte Pavey married Rufus Collins in 1897 and they also lived on Gunville Road. I wonder why so many of this generation of Paveys ended up in such a small village and all on the one street?

Absalom and Margaret's son, Bernard Pavey, wrote a booklet titled "Taint Like Twer In Granfers Time" in 1985 and his son Kenneth Pavey also produced a couple of books in 1989 - "People and families of Winterslow" where he recalls his years growing up in the village during WW2 and a short history of the  soldiers and sailors who are named on the Winterslow war Memorial. I would really like to get hold of copies of any of these books and also a copy of the history of the village that was published by the ladies of the WI.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Looks like the books were self-published?
(According to a Google search - Winterslow Pavey - in Books)

Maybe the family have some copies left?

"Winterslow, 1901 : 'taint like twer in Granfer's time." was written for the 1985 Wiltshire History Competition, and was a booklet of 4 leaves.

"People and families of Winterslow : [Kenneth John Pavey] remembering his childhood and schooldays during the war years, 1939-1945, when living at Timmens Mead, Middle Winterslow, near Salisbury, Wiltshire." was written for the same competition in 1989. 23 leaves.

Maybe a search for the said competition might prove fruitful?
