Durham Absent Voters List - Wilfred Lawton
« on: Thursday 22 August 13 08:33 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me with the Durham Absent Voters List of 1918 to find my grandfather, Wilfred Lawton? The 1911 census records the family living at Crook & this is most likely still the case in 1918, although its also possible that they could be in Consett by then. Wilfred was born in 1895 in Seaham Harbour. I am trying to find out what unit in the RAMC he was attached to during WW1. I have pretty much exhausted all other avenues & as I am in Australia I don't have access to paper records. Hoping someone can help.

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

The only Medal Roll Index entry for a Wifred Lawton (Private) in the RAMC has the regimental number 81196

Is this your Wilfred?

Hi Carole

Yes thats him. Unfortunately the medal roll does not include any unit details, nor do the original medals. The only other possibility for identifying his particular unit is the absent voters list & I suspect that this may be long shot too. But its always worth a try.

I was afraid you'd say that - it would appear that there really is no way to identify Wilfred's unit now. Thanks very much for the info anyway. At the very least you've provided me with some details regarding Wilf's younger brother Alfred - I appreciate your help.

Regards,
Andrew
