Edwin ("Ned") Shepherd, Baptist minister, Huntingdon c. 1860
« on: Friday 30 August 13 02:41 BST (UK) »
Does anyone recognize Mr. Shepherd? I'm trying a new tack with my 'brick wall'. A CDV of this gentleman, taken by A. Maddison, Huntingdon, appears in a family album with a note that he is a cousin. Since I haven't made any headway with antecedents for my subject - South Shields master mariner and shipowner John Burfield - I thought I might start digging from the Shepherd end.

VERY N.B. I have a lot of information on Mr. Burfield's descendants, on his own marine career and on his ships. I ask please that no one waste their time re-inventing the wheel finding his marriage, his children, his death, his census returns etc. What I want to find are his ancestors. Burfield is not a common name in the NE.

Huntingdonshire and the ministry are new areas for me - I'm more at home tracing mariners - so I will appreciate tips on where to look.

Cheers,
Westoe

I cant see him on 1861 census in Huntingdon area at all.

If was a Minister of a mainstream Baptist Church ( as opposed to Strict Baptist, or any other group loosely calling themselves Baptist) then it might be worth contacting tnbe Baptist Union
http://www.baptist.org.uk
I am not actually sure there is a Baptist Church in Huntingdon itself ( couldnt get it by googling) but there are in some neighbouring places such as Godmanchester, Great Gidding, and others .

Any more info on 'Ned' ?- ( dont know what a CDV is, so dont know what it might have given)
