Mary Ann Fairbanks( B: Abt 1836 Gosberton, Lincolnshire

Hi Everyone

I am looking for information about the above person confirming birth, marriages and death of the above person.

I know Mary Ann Fairbanks (B:1856) married John Brennan Chapman (B:1855) on 17 Jan 1856 at Halifax from a marriage certificate listed in detail on the internet. Father of John Brennan Chapman is also named as John Brennan Chapman a Sawyer.The father of his wife is named as George Fairbanks(farmer)

I have also come across a 1871 census listing a Mary Ann Knowles wife of John Knowles( Retired Grocer) of Warley and lists a Stepson William Chapman(age 13) who I believe is the son of the previous marriage.

I have also found another marriage certificate for a widow Mary Ann Knowles (age 44 of Cleckheaton) to John Storey dated 5 Jan 1881. at Birstal. The marriage certificate indicates Mary Ann father as George Fairbanks a deceased farmer and  John Storey father as William Storey a deceased Joiner

I am trying to link the second marriage of Mary Ann Chapman to the marriage of John Knowles ( a retired grocer) and any other details about the birth and death of Mary Ann.

Any help would be most appreciated

In 1841 their is this Mary:-

Eliza 35
Georgeana 9 ( Burial 18th June 1844 St Peter & St Paul, Gosberton aged 12)
Eliza 7
Mary 4
Geo 6 months
Residing at Westhorp, Gosberton
Census Ref HO107607/ 11/44 / 3

Marriage George Fairbanks Widower to Eliza Picker 23rd September 1828 Parish Gosberton Deanery West Elloe, Lincolnshire
Burial George Fairbanks 15th December 1847 St Peter & St Paul Gosberton aged 70


Also in 1881 4 of the Knowles children shown on the 1871 with John/Mary Knowles are now with a John and Mary Ann Storey Census Ref RG11/4429/100/26
I also note in 1871, the John Chapman aged 1 b Halifax is now a John Knowles aged 12?

Hi again, I could not locate baptisms for the last 2 children of William & Eliza on the 1841 census, but Mary A's death would appear to be:-

Death Mary A Storey September qtr 1913 North Bierley 9b 4 aged 76

Glad to have helped, but have you located death and even birth of John Brennan Chapman or even a census with his father John or in fact any census as a Sawyer prior to marriage?

  Yes now understand, but in your first post you suggested he was born c 1855 which is why their was a query as to the dates in post 1!

So when, where did he die, and if he just left the family and started a new life, maybe Mary A could not marry John Knowles as she was still married?

I am not sure I quite understand you, but there is a marriage between a Mary Ann Knowles( widow) Age 44 listing her father as George Fairbanks deceased (farmer) to John Storey Age 51(widower) 8 Jan 1881 Birstal father William Storey(deceased).

I assume Mary Chapman must have remarried to someone called Knowles before marrying John Storey?
