Could it be Morbus which is Latin for Disease?

Just trying to expand & came up with this:

"Plasmapheresis" i.e. possibly shortened version is "Mefrus" wrongly spelt?  So maybe a blood disease?

1st highlighted word just above pic on:-

Annie

But plasmapheresis is a procedure not a disease.  Also have never heard it shortened to anything like melrus.  Besides, in 1882 it is doubtful that anyone knew anything about that.

My medical dictionary does not have melrus or anything like it.  However, it says the prefix mel-
means:
"In medicine, a combining form signifying limb"    &
"In medicine, a combination form meaning cheek"

But can't find anything for the end of the word's meaning ??? ???

mel as a word means honey.

The nearest I got from friend google was a drug called Mefruside for the treatment of oedema.
Might there be a connection?
The lady had died aged 32 yrs.
Thanks
Oedema at age 32 would be pretty rare.  It is usually caused by either heart problems or kidney problems. These days you can also get it from too much steroids but no steroids in 1882, unless they knew some natural source of them - a bit unlikely.
Of course, the heart / kidney problems at 32 could be a result of poorly managed pregnancies.

Excuse me DR. Billy  :o but I am merely trying to come up with words similar to help a fellow root hunter.................. so be it with a medical query but I have taken my own time to help which is what matters on here  :-[

LET'S dig deeper............................I am a root hunter not a Medical student in any field.

Plasmapheresis"  "Mefrus"......... (Plas- MAPHERES -is)
could well have been a shortened but mis-spelt word PERTAINING to BLOOD DISEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Annie...........just about to order a medical dictionary from ebay for future ref.  ;D

Thanks Carol,

Nice of you to compliment my "input"

Is the certificate a GRO-generated copy? If they've written out a transcription I wonder how clear the underlying record actually is?
