Help with a John Anderson
« on: Wednesday 04 September 13 19:12 BST (UK) »
I need help to verify a baptism for a John Anderson between 1795-1801.
Only now when i have rechecked this family i think i have made a mistake about John's parentage.
I have him on each census from 1841-1861 living in Wendling occupation Shoemaker, with his wife Sarah. It says he was born in East Dereham.
John marries Sarah in 1818 in Wendling.
When i checked his baptism i have (baptised 27 June 1796 Swanton Morley father Robert)
Clearly now i think i have been following the wrong family.
I have found a John Anderson baptised April 26th 1797 in East Dereham base child of Sarah Anderson.
Then I found a marriage for a Sarah Anderson to a William Fitt 17th Dec 1798 Wendling.
Any help to sort me out of this mess would be appreciated

Hi REEDY

Don't know if this will help but there is a marriage for a John Anderson to Martha Cottrell on 22 March 1817 at East Dereham

so that accounts for two John Andersons! but which is which?

My John Anderson married Sarah Bailey in 1818 in Wendling. I know this is correct because i have the childrens births.
I think i have made a mistake with his baptism.
I am going to recheck it again and see if i can make sense of the muddle i have got myself into.

Hi

The John Anderson bap in Swanton Morley had a sister Mary bap 21 May 1798 also in Swanton Morley.

The witnesses at John Anderson and Martha Cottrell's marriage were John and Mary Betts

John Betts married Mary Anderson 28 Jan 1817 at East Dereham witnesses were John Anderson and Martha Cottrell.
Both marriages here http://www.rootschat.com/links/0w0d/

so it looks like you had got the wrong John :-\

So my John must be the one born in 1796 in East Dereham mother Sarah Anderson.
I have a copy of John's Marriage to Sarah Bailey in 1818 Wendling but its that faint a cannot make the witness name out.
I have also looked at the copy on familysearch and cannot make the names out.

The marriage is here http://www.rootschat.com/links/0w1g/

one witness looks like Sarah Moore the other is Phillip ?? I can't make out the surname, but I'm sure someone will be able to read it.
