The Military GS medal was issued to anyone alive on June 1st 1847. So would not have applied to him.

Thanks Ken,

It was a bit unfair on men who could not read or write or had been wounded or killed before date ,

Henry was wounded at the  Battle of Vitoria, and died 18 month later, (He was discharge 29/06/1814 was a Chelsea Pension ) discharge probably to with his injuries, shell shock as some have suggestion from army site. Death,10/01/1816 in Killinghall Ripley Yorkshire England.

allot different for the men who were in ww1

Thanks for your help

Paul

Do you mean frost bite? . 'shell shock' was caused by prolonged exposure to artillery shelling. Google retreat to corunna to see what the weather was like in northern Spain.

Not being able to read would not have meant men did not receive their MGS medal. It would have been common knowledge, and army pensioners would have heard about it when they collected their pension.

A separate LG entry of the 4th of June gave details of how non-pensioners  could claim their medals. This would have been picked up my all newspapers, which meant that someone in every village heard about it within a few days.
