George Williams Way, Colchester
« on: Sunday 08 September 13 18:48 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew the history of a street called George Williams Way in Colchester. My ancestor was George Williams and in the 1871 census he is listed as living in Bakers Row, off Magdalen Street, George Williams Way is also off Magdalen Street. In 1872 he married Eleanor Sutton and is listed as being a gardener of Magdalen St. He moved to Twickenham, Middlesex by 1891 but I can't find him on the 1881 census.

I'm wondering if it's coincidence the street was called that or is there some connection? Any help is much appreciated!

Hi

Am working from memory here but I recall George Williams Way was built around 2002/3. Prior to that there was small industrial & business start up units there. Named after a retiring Councillor at the time.
