Looking for the baptism of Elizabeth Outhwaite
« on: Monday 09 September 13 14:36 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Can anybody help me find the baptism of Elizabeth Outhwaite?

She married in 1750 to a Henry Clements in St Georges Chapel Mayfair. The record says that she was of the parish of St Margaret Lothbury, which is in the city's square mile.

I'm not having much luck in finding her. The site that I found her marriage on, has her name transcribed as 'Cuthwaite', but the image says Outhwaite.

From the IGI Outhwaite seems to be a northern name.

Any help would be appreciated.

Linda

hi linda
as you say from family search most outhwaites are from Yorkshire and on there if you use London as a birth place all it throws up are marriages and deaths and not many of those either .

Good Morning
As the marriage is indexed under clandestine marriages, you may want to consider the possibility that she was lying.Gone through the parish manually 1719-1740 and no Outhwaites at all.
The nearest record I can find is a Robert Outhwaite at St Lukes 1767 being taxed.or there's a will for Bartholomew died 1717.
There is an Elizabeth Othwaite 23.11.1741 to George and Margaret at St Stephen Coleman St.i suppose she could have been a few years older when baptised.
Sorry

Hi Ciderdrinker,

Thanks for your help.

I didn't know the marriage was listed under Clandestine marriages.

I suppose although she said she was of St Margaret Lothbury, that doesn't necessarliy mean that she was born or baptised there, just that she happened to be living there at the time of their marriage.

As you say, if she was trying to hide something, it may have just been the first thing off the top of her head!

...... Oh why do we do this.   :-\
