Baptism/birth of Wells Leggett of Norfolk
« on: Thursday 12 September 13 12:35 BST (UK) »
I have been searching for the baptism of my father's ancestor Wells Legate (Leggett, Legit, etc etc). He married Susanna Eastwick in 1804 at Dersingham. They had 9 children, one of whom was my g g grandfather Paul, born in Grimston 1810. Previous children were born in Dersingham. I have come up against a brick wall in looking for Wells' baptism. however I found a family of Francis Leggetts in Great Cressingham, some way from Grimston, but Francis Leggett married a Mary Wells in Flitcham (quite near) on 8 Oct 1769.
In a fit of lateral thinking, I wondered if they could have had a son given the first name Wells, after Mary's family? I have found no siblings for him. I have been using FreeReg ,and familysearch which I am finding very difficult since they started the new website. I also have access to Norfolk Marriage Records (Phillimore). I am a Premium member of Ancestry.
Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Hell Eleanorw,

Those places are probably all within about 5 miles of each other - your lateral thinking makes sense.

Have you seen this baptism in Ingoldisthorpe (also close to Grimston etc.)

Wells Godfrey, son of Thomas and Elizabeth (late Leggate)
Elizabeth could have been Wells sister.

And here's the parents marriage - 1797 at Ingoldisthorpe.
Interestingly, one of the witnesses is a Francis Leggate
