1871 England Census Lookup - Kane in Liverpool

I am trying to find some information on my 2nd great grandfather, Edward Kane.  He lived and died in Liverpool but was born in Ireland around 1842.  In 1873, he lived in Liverpool with at least his father, Cornelius Kane.  Their address was 155B Great Homer Street.  I’m ultimately trying to find where in Ireland they are from.  I was unable to find them on the 1871 Census but I’m not sure if it is because they were not living in England at the time or just an error in transcription.  Is there a way to look up a census record by address?  I have Edward’s census records from 1881 going forward but I’m unable to find anything before his marriage in 1873.  Any information would be appreciated.

1861 they are in West Derby, Lancashire.
Cornelius Kane is born c 1821 Dublin, Ireland
1871 they are under HANE living in Liverpool.
Edward is not with them in either Census
1861 C is a Singer/ 1871 a Manager of a Music Hall and 1881 a Whip Maker

Thank you all for your quick response.  I've seen some of the records you mentioned but I don't have enough info to verify them.

garstonite, thank you, that is the marriage record for Edward.  That's where I found his father's name and address in 1873.

I then found a London Gazette article from 1873 regarding a bankruptcy related to Cornelius Kane with the same address as Edward's marriage record.  That's how I was able to connect the two.  It said Cornelius was a Boot and Shoe dealer.

I'll pursue those leads a little more and see what I can find out.  It's very possible Edward was not in England in 1871.  I have a lot of information on him after his marriage. I just can't seem to find anything before that.

This may not be to your liking - but according to census Cornelius Kane born Dublin 1821

Cornelius Kane born 1821 Mountjoy,Dublin - sent to prison in 1852 in Dublin ...maybe he left Dublin when he came out of prison - he had previous conviction - Potatoe Famine years - fathers DID steal food for their kids - wouldn`t we all ??

Thanks for the info!  It's something interesting I haven't come across before.

One thing I've learned in my research is not to judge the people in my distant family.  Especially in that time frame.  I can't even imagine what they went through.

 Cornelius  and family  must have  had family    still in Ireland   as after  Cornelius  jnr   had been born in Liverpool   the youngest 2 were born Ireland ,  maybe  he should  have stayed  in Liverpool  ,   then  he wouldn't  have  got  into trouble there !!
