The mysterious Henry Wilson.
« on: Saturday 14 September 13 00:25 BST (UK) »
I am looking, and have been for quite a while, a Henry Wilson. According to all census he appears in to be born in Chedworth, Gloucestershire in 1806 and a master plasterer by trade.

In Chedworth graveyard there is a John Wilson, whom i found on the census to be the son of Christopher Wilson; Christopher was born in Chedworth in 1816, and was also a plasterer by trade.

Fancifully i have a notion that Christopher may be a brother but FreeReg only shows the following results for Wilsons born in Chedworth around that time;

7   Baptisms   07 Jun 1798   WILSON   William   Gloucestershire   Chedworth    Mother Surname, Father Surname

8   Baptisms   07 Jun 1798   WILSON   Sarah   Gloucestershire   Chedworth    Mother Surname, Father Surname

9   Baptisms   27 Dec 1803   WILSON   Edmund   Gloucestershire   Chedworth    Mother Surname, Father Surname

10   Baptisms   20 Apr 1816   WILSON   Christopher   Gloucestershire   Chedworth    Mother Surname, Father Surname

11   Baptisms   11 Nov 1805      Sarah   Gloucestershire   Chedworth    Mother Surname

He married an Elizabeth Tuffley;

1   Marriages   23 May 1825   WILSON   Henry   Gloucestershire   Chedworth    Groom Surname

...and had three children that i am aware of William, John and Sarah.

Can anyone help me in this quest, and maybe the parent entries on the above parish records?

Many Thanks.

Thank you for your help! i'm quite unsure how I am missing these at the moment. I preferred the old familysearch searching function that's for sure.

The search continues...

Hi,
I can confirm that Henry WILSON married Elizabeth TUFFLEY at St Andrew, Chedworth on 23rd May 1825 by Banns.
Children of Henry & Elizabeth WILSON, a Slatter of Chedworth, baptised at St Andrew, Chedworth:-
William - 25th December 1825
John - 25th May 1828
I can find no record for Sarah.
I shall be visiting Glos Archives next week and will lookup your further data requests.

It's been a year since i looked at this side of the family and i can't seem to make head nor tail of this one.

Henry Wilson b1804 under the non conformist registers has the parents Simon and Sarah, this i believe to be Sarah Evans due to a marriage record in Chedworth fitting in nicely.

There are a couple of other children to Simon and Sarah, but even though there is quite an extensive amount of Wilson's in Chedworth from 1600-1800 i can't seem to find Simon going backwards.

There is a will for a Simon Wilson who dies in 1842, which puts him at about 82 years old according to the 1841 census, which means he would have fathered my direct relative in his late 40s. This will claims of sons and daughters called Catherine, Henry, John, Betty, George.

I'm still no closer, to finding out if its the same Simon however.

I must add that Henry was not in Chedworth around the time of this will as he had moved to Birmingham. He remained a plasterer however...it seems as though in the 1841 census the Simon and George who are there are both plasterers.
Can anyone help decipher this one.
