I would like to know where the Army recruitment offices were located in Liverpool c.1900, and whether the building is still in existence. All help very much appreciated.

Hi Wayne

There were at lots of military headquarters in Liverpool at the time. There were seven Volunteer Battalions and the Liverpool Scottish started in 1901/2. There were also Royal Artillery units. The two battalions of Regulars - (Kings) Liverpool Regiment were based in Warrington, as were two battalions of Militia. Men could either go to Warrington for these or enlist in Liverpool at one of the above HQs.

The full list will be in a Kellys/Post Office Directory of the time in the 'official' section. Someone on the Lancashire section may have a copy. Or try the Merseyside & History Forum. I have one from 1903-4, but I will not have access until the weekend.

The barracks in Warrington still exists on Orford Road.
