Hi

I cant see a marriage before 1869. There is one in Morpeth in 1896 of a James Stewart with possible brides either Isabella Campbell of Margaret Johnson. Dec quarter 1896 10B 639.  It could be that they either didn't marry or married late.

You may have to get their daughter's birth certificate as that will give you Isabella's name.

The 1911 census says they have been married 44 years and the 1871 gives Isabella name as Isabella E Stewart

Have you thought to research the family of Stewarts that are living in the same street in 1871 as your James and Isabella,
James Stewart a shoemaker widower born Scotland, his wife was possibly Margaret,
children born Morpeth

James Stewart and Margaret have a son,James, baptised 11th April 1843 Morpeth,as well as the other children in the 1871 census,
Gunning County Down,Kneale Isle of Man,Riddle Tynemouth,Bibby Kendal/Bradford,Colenso Penzance/Barrow-in-Furness,Steele Corney Fell,Chapman Ely,Dawes Alfreton,Blamire Westmoreland and Ulverston

The 1911 census says they have been married 44 years and the 1871 gives Isabella name as Isabella E Stewart

That doesn't always mean that they did actually marry, just that they want to appear respectable.  ;D ;D ;D I've looked at a couple of sites and cant find a marriage around then. It could be that Isabella wasn't her first name, but I still cant see anything.

Well James is with his parents in 1851,Morpeth,1861 Morpeth with his parents, and 1871 married, perhaps,so the birth certificate of Margaret is the only way I think, dont you to find his wifes  surname,
