Poll Books
« on: Monday 23 September 13 20:56 BST (UK) »
A little help here please. The attached is a poll book record for my Wife's relative in the 1800s. It was taken in Epworth, Lincolnshire and I have worked out the W stands for Wife does the Ch refer to children? What is the C? And what does fr stand for?
 ???
I tried being normal once, it was the worst 5 minutes of my life!

Hi,

I think that the "W", "Ch" and "C" are the initials of the surnames of the candidates. "Fr" could mean freeholder.  :-\

Just found the candidates:  Lord Worsley, RA Christopher, Esq, and Hon. CH Cust.

If you go to image 1659 you can see the first page of the poll book showing the names of the candidates http://goo.gl/MFCG8n
The numbers show which candidate each person voted for. In this case Thomas Gilyert gave one vote for Christopher and one for Cust.
