Hughes in Tullyniskan
« on: Wednesday 09 October 13 20:13 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the marriage record of Daniel Hughes and Catherine O'Neill.  The earliest child I find is in 1853 in Drumreagh, Tullyniskan, co. Tyrone.  In the 1901 census it states that he was born in 1828 and her in 1830. Any thoughts as where to find a marriage record?  They were Roman Catholic according to the 1901 census.

Hi,
The marriage is before 1864 when R.C. marriages were recorded by the Civil Registrar. You will need to see if the local Roman Catholic church has a record of the marriage. I noticed that PRONI has a record of Daniel's will when probate was granted to Ellen Devlin, his daughter I assume. Unfortunately there is no image.

Thank for such a quick response.  What I guess I'm really asking is what is the church in that area?  How would I contact them?  I have seen the death info and do have a copy of it.  Being from California I'm a bit overwhelmed with the places in Tyrone. Thank you again.

Drumreagh and the civil parish of Tullyniskan form part of the RC parish of Dungannon. Their records start in 1821. Copies are held in the parish (but there may be more than one church within the parish), PRONI, Belfast, the National Library in Dublin and LDS have also microfilmed them. Details on this link:

You may also find them on some pay to view sites.

You can try writing to the parish, but most parishes receive quite a lot of genealogical enquiries and you many not get a very prompt reply.
