I'm desperately trying to find out info about my great grandparents but have very little to go on. I'm interested in Robert Charles Clover (possibly born 1945?) who married Elizabeth Mary Frances. They had 4 children together: Ethel, Ruby, Strathcona, and Owen and then Elizabeth had 2 from a previous marriage: Kathleen, and Clifford. I have some limited info about their kids as Ethel is my grandma but no one knows anything about her parents Robert and Elizabeth. I've chosen this Essex board to post 'cause Ethel was born in Colchester so it's the best starting point I've got. I've been at a dead end for several years now for that side of the family--they seem to just be this giant question mark in my family. Anyone who can be of any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat, have you got the 1945 year of birth wrong for Robert Charles Clover, as their is a birth of a Strathcona A Clover Sept qtr 1915 Tendring Essex 4a 1344 Mothers maiden name Francis?

Hi there, I believe that the Clover family you refer to emigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
In 1938 in the Voters register Mr & Mrs Robert Clover and Strathcona Clover are listed.
Mr Strathcona Clover died 15 Aug 1984 in New Westminster, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Yes, sorry, I think 1945 was the year he died, not the year he was born.

Thank you both so much, that's more info than I've managed to find in like over 10 years lol It sounds like it's probably the right Clover family. I'm just tickled to finally get some blank spots filled in on the family tree. Any tips on how I could try to find out more?

Hi again, so that others can possibly assist more in ie Canada, are these the children of Robert Charles Clover and Elizabeth Mary Cheverton nee Francis prior to 1911?

It is possible the family emigrated 11th July 1919 Liverpool to Quebec on SS Melita

Their is this departure:-

Ethel Muriel is not one of their kids--they did have an Ethel, but her full name is Elsie Ethel May Clover (she chose to go by Ethel rather than Elsie though). Not sure about Gladys Ruby F--they did have a daughter named Ruby but no idea if that was a middle name or a first name. I've never heard anyone mention a Gladys before but my family is pretty clueless about the Clover side so it's quite possible that's her.

I tried finding a passenger list for the SS Melita but was unable to see any Clover's on it. I might not have been looking at the right year though so will have to check into that again. One of my biggest question marks about my Grandma's life has always been when and why they came over to Canada, would be awesome to finally find out!
