Hi Imber:  Thanks for your help.  Under Kirsty's name there are four blue icons, one of which is for email which is what I used.  Apparently she did receive my email but it went into her "junk box". She has replied to me privately now, so we are in touch.

Thanks again though.

Regards, Genetrix

Hi Genetrix, I wonder where you got the birthdate of 1 Dec 1847 for John Alexander? I looked at Scotlandspeople and could not locate a birth for John in Ayr in 1847. The only John I could find was born in 1852 in Largs,Ayrshire or a John Jamieson born in 1849. Any Johns I came across between 1840-1854, seem to have been born in Argyll. It may help findng the Henderson connection if yu can discover the correct birth cert. Kim

Hi Blemdookie:  I also couldn't find a birth certificate for John Alexander Henderson McIntyre but his death certificate mentioned that he died at the Sir Gabriel Wood's Mariners' Home in Greenock.  I wrote to them and they very kindly forwarded me all the information they had on him.  It mentioned that he was admitted on September 4, 1925 and his last birthday had been on December 1, 1924 when he turned 77 years old.  Other family members were mentioned which confirmed that he was the right person.  Presumably no birth record as it was prior to 1855 and wasn't compulsory.

Hi, I found another child with the same Henderson middle name.

Lillias Henderson McIntyre
died 1863  in Perth
age 2
father: James McIntyre
mother: Euphemia Heron
( Lillias was born in Fife)

I went back & checked the parents marriage and found the following:

9 Dec 1858
Carnock, Fife
James McIntyre  age 36  father: Daniel McIntyre  mother: Mary Faichney
Euphemia Herron  age 29  father: Robert Herron   mother: Lilias Henderson

someway or another James McIntyre ties in with your John. Note that the name Lillias is in your family as well. How exactly these folks tie in, I don't know. Could James & Archibald be brothers?
Hope this may help your search, Kim

Hi Blemdookie:  Thank you so much for the information, however, despite the Henderson and Lilias names, James cannot be a sibling to Archibald.  I have Archie's death certificate showing his parents as Duncan McIntyre and Sarah McCallum.  Their eldest son was also a Duncan and he's buried in Greenock too with his brother John.  So frustrating when you think you've found something and it doesn't pan out in the end. I don't have any Daniel McIntyres on my tree. Thanks again anyway.
