Ancestry tips ...
My favourite is that my grx4 grandparents who were hatched, matched and despatched in Cornwall in the 1700s had a son in Tennessee in 1775. Several dozen people have adopted my ancestors into their tree on that basis, even though it is complete nonsense. The names of their son born in Cornwall and the one born in Tennessee don't even match, they just look a little bit alike.
According to FindMyPast (oops, and according to suzard! I missed that), the Ilse Beck who travelled Liverpool-New York in 1940 was born c1920. So that seems to settle it without paying to peek any further!
The one thing you do need, if you don't know your Else's parents' names, is her marriage certificate, which should give you her father's name and occupation, and whether he was still living. The names of witnesses could also give clues -- if she had family in England, a family member might have been a witness.
