Where was Henry born ?
« on: Sunday 27 October 13 17:46 GMT (UK) »
I've got a Henry Asher....according to the 1841 census he was born in 1776. Although he's living in Leics, he says he was born in Lincs. I believe he was the Henry Asher who was a witness at a wedding in Leics at Breedon on the Hill in 1801 (& it looks as though Henry himself married there in 1802). The groom at the wedding came from Fledborough, Notts, (just the Notts side of the Notts/Lincs border), so I'm guessing that Henry came from somewhere around there, but in Lincs.

Could anyone tell me where he was born, please, &, as Lincs is unchartered territory for me, once we know that, the best way of building up a picture of this Asher family, as it's really a William Asher I'm after who, I  think, was one of his relatives ?

Thanks  very much

Mmmm......thank you very much. In that case, I wonder if he had a son named William ? I came into this thinking the Asher family concerned would have a connection with Breedon on the Hill...so the Lincs thing might be a red herring

The baptism looks promising :)

I'm not sure how he could say in 1841 he was born in Lincs if he was living in Leics, as birthplace in 1841 is just a Yes/No to the question Born in County?

In fact it looks to me as though he may be in Melbourne, Derbyshire in 1841 (not born in county) with a Mary Asher, 60, and Henry Asher, 18.
Ayr: Barnes, Wylie
Caithness: MacGregor
Essex: Eldred (Pebmarsh)
Gloucs: Timbrell (Winchcomb)
Hants: Stares (Wickham)
Lincs: Maw, Jackson (Epworth, Belton)
London: Pierce
Suffolk: Markham (Framlingham)
Surrey: Gosling (Richmond)
Wilts: Matthews, Tarrant (Calne, Preshute)
Worcs: Milward (Redditch)
Yorks: Beaumont, Crook, Moore, Styring (Huddersfield); Middleton (Church Fenton); Exley, Gelder (High Hoyland); Barnes, Birchinall (Sheffield); Kenyon, Wood (Cumberworth/Denby Dale)

No....the William Asher I'm looking for married in 1814....first son named George, so father possibly George. In view of the fact that the Lincs connection doesn't hold  water, I'll investigate Breedon a bit further.

Sorry & thanks

That was the one I had spotted that appeared to link to the 1851 I gave you.  ;)
