Hi David ref your query for your gggrandparents. They could have originated anywhere in county cork.
There was in existence in Ireland a "naming pattern" for children so you could bear this in mind for any of the names of Garret & Mary's children. I have the following records which may or may not be relevant but as the records you are looking for are well before Civil Reg in 1864 all that will be available (if) are Baptism.
Baptism record for MARY COPPINGER in Parish of CAHARAGH (this is West Carbery Co Cork)
4th June 1820. Parents: JOHN COPPINGER & ELLEN CRIMMEN
Baptism to the same parents:
23 November 1822 same Parish RICHARD COPPINGER.
*** I note from 1851 Census posted a daughter name of ELLEN age 2 This may tie in with the Irish Naming Tradition I mentioned earlier & she may have been named after ELLEN CRIMMEN mother of Mary Coppinger above.
There is also another Baptism record for a MARY COPPINGER 12 Feb 1823 in Parish of Aughadown (near Skibereen Co Cork) Parents are Richard Coppinger & Cathe Cremeen.
AnnClares mention of a baptism for Patrick Walsh looks interesting but name of father incorrect. Saying that when transcriptions are being done from old registers mistakes can occur. I had been searching for years for my grandparents marriage record and only recently discovered it to find my grandfathers christian name was recorded completely differently to his given name. Regards Frances
